CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

February 23, 2005

Dear St Cecilia Family,

Greetings to you and the Lord's Peace be always with you.

The parish of St Cecilia has a very rich history beginning with Fr. Dwan in 1921.  After his arrival, he had to locate the worship space in an abandoned building on Livernois and Grand River.

A few years later the temporary church was built around 1924.  Our school building was finished and opened in August of 1925.  Our current church building was formally dedicated by Bishop Gallagher May 17, 1931.  The current rectory was finished around that time as well.

Eighty-five year old buildings must be maintained.  As the founding families of this parish had the wisdom and made the sacrifices necessary for us to be here, we too must make the serious sacrifices and do the necessary planning so the faith of God will be anchored here for the Church of tomorrow.  At this time in the history of this Archdiocese, as we take up the task of "Together in Faith" we will state our claim to the Archdiocese and to ourselves that we will maintain our house of faith and put down strong roots of African American Catholic life for the twenty-first century. [This year we will include your CSA contribution to the Archdiocese]

This campaign will be undertaken on three phases, over a three-year period, one year at a time.  Phase I begins now.  Repairs need to be completed in the following areas:

Church - Roof, Bell Tower, Gutters, and Interior Masonry

Activities Building - Roof, Gutters, and Interior Masonry

Rectory - Windows, Slate Areas, Furnace, Electrical Re-Wiring, Copper Ridge, and Carpet

In order to finance this ambitious effort, we are beginning a Capital Campaign for $350,000.  Join us in helping St. Cecilia's continue to "keep the rain out".  The campaign will be undertaken in three phases, one year at a time.

Through listening to you and my own observations, I do have hopes and dreams for our future.  I thank you for the help and encouragement you have been to me in my time as your pastor.  With God's help and yours, we will accomplish GREAT things together.

      Sincerely yours in Christ,
